Letter to Mr Jacob Zuma - execution of SA citizen

On the Etv news at 7 pm on the 10 December 2011 it was announced that a South African citizen Janice Bronwyn Linden will be executed on Monday after Dirco was unsuccessful in having her sentence commuted to life.

RE: EXECUTION OF A SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZEN

Dear President Mr Jacob Zuma,

We the families and members of the LOCKED UP – 2ND CHANCES FOR SA INMATES ABROAD are deeply disturbed after watching the Etv news at 7 pm this evening. A South African citizen Janice Bronwyn Linden, aged 35 and who was arrested on drug related charges in China in November 2008, will be executed on Monday. This story first appeared in our media on the 9 April 2010, and then DIRCO said they would intervene. This evening less than 48 hours before she is due to be executed DIRCO says they were unsuccessful. Why have they kept this quiet!!!!

There are no words strong enough to express how I feel.

What is government doing? We don't see drug lords arrested? We don’t see any of the people who recruited our citizens arrested? We don’t see any investigations being done? We don't see any campaigns from the side of government to educate or warn our citizens. We don't see any posters warning citizens at any of the airports. No Prisoner Transfer Agreements are being signed by the South African government.

In 1996 we read many articles that appeared worldwide, wherein Mr Nelson Mandela stated and I quote;
" Our pledge is: Never and never again shall the laws of our land rend our people apart or legalize their oppression and repression."

It is such a shame that our citizens have been discarded by our Government!

We strongly believe that due to South Africa’s porous borders and nonchalant attitude towards the drug cartels in our country that thousands upon thousands of innocent families are suffering across all racial groups. Innocent South Africans are being duped daily into becoming decoys for the drug lords and then our “constitutionally correct” government turns a blind eye.
